While I was in Tonsai a new leader in a guided group broke his foot - not blaming the guides and don't know the details, but I just know I shit my pants when I see such a disregard for safety basics and its nerve-racking for me to even be around. My partner and I decided to just leave when guides show up. If you climb in the 5. 11 range you can get on most climbs with guided groups around, if you climb below I wouldnt come to this area if you aren't planning on hitting the climbing really early in the morning till abut 9/10 when the guides show up (which you should plan on doing anyways since its so god damn hot). the food is dangerous. there is a wonderful piece of artwork called "Tonsai Tummy" on the concrete wall there making fun of getting skinny through the constant diarrhea you'll most likely get. I got it. My friends got it. I watched THREE different parties throwing up from food poisoning. The place is trashed and nasty and I just didn't trust anywhere to eat. This sucks big time.
